Education

The Colburn Earth Science Museum team is passionate about education and takes pride in offering high-quality, hands-on classes covering a variety of Earth Sciences. We offer more than a dozen different classes for students in K through 12th grade in public, private, and home schools.

The Colburn also has a unique partnership with the Grove Stone and Sand Co. quarry in Swannanoa, just outside of Asheville. Colburn educators teach some classes there, using the quarry, its overlooks and its nature trails and streams as an outdoor classroom.

Each year, instructors from throughout Western North Carolina bring thousands of students with diverse learning abilities to the Colburn for field trips that include classroom instruction, quarry trips, and our "scavenger hunt" museum exploration.  Colburn educators also conduct outreach and take Colburn science classes on the road.

"We look forward to serving your students and deepening their knowledge of earth science." Colburn Educators: Phil Potter and Summer Concannon
