Camp Open House

Not sure which camp to sign up for? Come to the Colburn Museum for an open house introduction of our 2004 summer camps. Meet the education staff and learn more about the activities planned during camp.
Pack Place Potpourri , rising 3 rd - 5 th grade
June 7 th - 11 th , 9 am - 5 pm
Spend a week sampling the "greatest hits" of Pack Place! Campers will visit all three museums each day. Draw, paint, sculpt, and more at The Asheville Art Museum. Make paper, build robots, and have fun with math and science at The Health Adventure. Explore geology, paleontology, oceanography, and other earth science topics at The Colburn Earth Science Museum. Little Science Sprouts , rising grades K - 1 st
June 14 th - 18 th , morning session only 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
June 28 th - July 2 nd , morning session 8:30 am - 12:00 pm, afternoon session 1:30 pm- 5:00 pm
This camp is designed for the sprouting scientist! Young campers will learn the importance of the environment through stories, songs, games, arts, and crafts. Earth science topics including rocks, minerals, air, water, and outer space are explored with fun, interactive activities.
$85 for members of The Colburn Museum
$95 for non-members
Budding Scientists , rising grades 2 nd - 4 th
June 21 st - 25 th , morning session 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, afternoon session 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm.
July 19 th - 23 rd , morning session 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, afternoon session 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm.
Campers are encouraged to attend both sessions as the activities will compliment each other.
The budding scientists will experiment with the relationship of living and nonliving systems. Activities will investigate the nature of plants, animals, and the environments necessary for their growth. The properties of matter including light and sound in space are explored through art and music. Campers take a fun, hands-on look at the value of the Earth's natural resources, how they are limited and should be used wisely through reducing, reusing, and recycling.
$85 for half day/$160 full day for members of The Colburn Museum
$95 for half day/$180 full day for non-members
Keepers of the Earth , rising grades 5 th - 6 th
July 12 th - 16 th , morning session 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, afternoon session 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm.
July 26 th - 30 th , morning session 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, afternoon session 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Campers are encouraged to attend both sessions as the activities will compliment each other.
By way of hands-on activities, campers will design and implement experiments in geology, weather, forces, and motion. Using the scientific method, campers will investigate landforms, ecosystems, and climate with maps and models. Local geology and environments will be explored in the field on an outdoor adventure at a nearby rock quarry in Swannanoa. Through understanding the nature of Earth science, campers will take on the responsibility of being Keepers of the Earth!
$85 for half day/$160 full day for members of The Colburn Museum
$95 for half day/$180 full day for non-members
This camp includes one day (Wednesday, July 14 th and Wednesday, July 28 th ) off site at a rock quarry in Swannanoa. Transportation will not be provided by the museum and is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Carpooling is encouraged. For more information, visit the Camp Open House on May 22.
